Located between the continents of Africa and Asia (Middle East) is the Red Sea. The Red Sea is actually a saltwater inlet of the Indian Ocean which enters from the Gulf of Aden on the Saudi Arabian Peninsula and then leads all the way up to the Gulf of Suez on one side and the Gulf of Aqaba on the other.
My partner James and I had heard about the beautiful resort areas that exist in the Red Sea area of Egypt. Having an international reputation for being one of the best locations for snorkelling, diving and fishing, we were certainly keen to take a look.
In particular, we wanted to check out the Red Sea Riviera, the Arab Republic of Egypt which lies along the eastern coastline of the mainland. Just south of the Gulf of Suez, the Red Sea Riviera comprises a number of resort towns and resorts dotted along the coast.
Our spot on the Red Sea Riviera Egypt
We were lucky enough to be based in the main centre of the Red Sea Riviera in the city of Hurghada.
From here we certainly had our pick of a large number of tours and charter boats that operate in and around the Red Sea.
Even from the beachfront resort we stayed at, we could see how beautiful the sea was. Although Hurghada is an extremely popular destination for holidaymakers from Europe in particular, it was so nice to see no evidence of pollution. This place is looked after very well.
Wikipedia sums this region up by saying: “The combination of a favourable climate, warm sea, thousands of kilometres of shoreline and abundant natural and archaeological points of interest makes this stretch of Egypt’s coastline a popular national and international tourist destination. There are numerous National Parks along the Red Sea Riviera, both underwater and on land. Desert and marine life are protected by a number of laws, and visitors may be subject to heavy fines for not abiding.”
Our first sea cruise from the Red Sea Riviera
Our first outing was aboard the ‘Happy Dolphin’. This cruiser had three large decks. The main deck is where you entered and also did swimming, SCUBA and snorkelling from. The top deck was a level up, from which you had a better overall view of the water and surrounds. And then there was the ‘submarine level’. This was a really neat area where passengers could observe marine life through windows beneath the surface of the sea.
I think the photos speak for themselves with respect to how beautiful the Red Sea is. It was extremely safe to enjoy the warm waters here, far out from shore. All the licensed tour operators here all have qualified staff who know the area and look after the guests well.
Dolphin watch
On another day, we were on a different charter boat which went much further out and also passed some lovely islands. The ‘Rayan 1’ was also a very nice boat that started out in search of dolphins. In the course of doing this, our boat joined with a number of others who all congregated around a spot where dolphins usually show up at a certain time in the morning.
As you can see, the dolphins did show up, much to the delight of excited onlookers. Many tourists got excited and jumped off the various boats in an attempt to swim with the dolphins. We opted to not try this and instead enjoyed watching the dolphins tease the tourists who had absolutely no chance of catching up with them!

It was a real joy to watch the beauty and grace of these wonderful and friendly creatures of the sea.
Touring around the Red Sea
The waters here are among the best I have ever seen. So clear, clean and pristine.
The spots we were taken to for some time in the beautiful warm water was so idyllic, it is hard to describe how fabulous and unspoilt this region is.
Below are some of the photos shared in an effort to convey the look and feel of the Red Sea.
Islands in the Red Sea
Many people travel to spend time on some really beautiful islands situated here.
Two in particular that we saw were Mahmya Island and Paradise Island. Wouldn’t you love to spend some of your vacation time enjoying these places?
Heading back to the Red Sea Riviera
Having enjoyed each outing on the Red Sea there is always the time when you have to head back to land again.
Approaching the shoreline of the Red Sea Riviera Egypt once more, I am reminded of just how beautiful this part of the world is.
A final thought
Egypt is rightfully renown the world over for its rich ancient historical sites which many of us dream of experiencing. There is no doubt that I enjoyed that remarkable aspect of this amazing country.
However, the word is also getting out more and more, about the natural beauty of places like the Red Sea Riviera and the wonderful Red Sea itself.
Although often overshadowed by Egypt’s more popular tourist sites, I found this region to be a real jewel in the crown of all that this country offers. I hope you would agree and plan time to explore Egypt’s natural beauty as much as any other aspect of this amazing land.
I just loved my time at the Red Sea Rivera Egypt and my experiences out on the Red Sea itself.
