Cooking over a campfire is always an adventure. One part of the adventure I’ve always worried about is using the grates provided at campsites when I have no idea how the last campers used it. When I was asked to review the Bitty Big Q camping grill, I saw an easily portable solution to the gross grate problem.
The Bitty Big Q is a foldable grill designed by Yehs Innovations Inc. in Ontario, Canada. This grill is made with 316 stainless steel, a corrosion resistance food-safe steel, for longevity. Its one-piece design folds into a 6.70″ x 3.46″ x 3.43″ rectangle and opens up to provide 160 square inches of cooking area. It also comes with a carrying pouch for storage and a cleaning tool.
We had a lot of fun with this grill before we even got it to a campfire. It makes a great fidget toy with all of the moveable joints. Like most of you, our camping plans have been canceled this spring so we made do with some campfire cooking in the backyard. I attempted a few evening campfires but found it difficult to stay awake until the coals were ready for cooking. Being the irresponsible person I am, I left the grill sitting outside for almost a week until we had a beautiful spring weekend day to finally do some cooking. The grill looked and functioned as good as new after sitting outside for a week.
The Bitty Big Q is adjustable to 3 levels of cooking by folding the legs. I used the highest level because we had a significant pile of wood-burning still. I first tested it out with a pot of water. I was a little nervous about stability but the grill held up the 5-quart pot of water fine, I think it helped that we had a log next to it and dug it into the coals.
Next, I threw on some sausages to make sure I could test how easy it was to clean. The sausages cooked nicely and were delicious.
That was where I planned to stop but we were in a fix, we wanted smore’s but only had mini marshmallows so I used the grill to cook some foil pack smores. Just in case you are wondering, I would recommend justing holding out for the real deal if you are ever in that situation.
I removed the grill from the fire with tongs and it cooled down quickly. It was a snap to clean up. Most of the residue from the sausages came right off as I collapsed it. I just used the cleaning tool it came with to clean up a few small spots it missed. Overall cooking with the grill was a success!

Cons
- Could be unstable if not positioned carefully
Overall, I would recommend this product. It does cost significantly more than other collapsible camping grills but is made of more durable materials and can be used in a variety of ways the other grills can not.
This grill will come on future camping trips whether we are on a canoe trip in the wilderness or traveling the country in our camper. Its portability ensures there will always be room for it. Its versatility means it will be a go-to tool as a campfire grill, or a rack that can be used in the oven, for cooling baked goods, and even a dish drying rack. I also love that I always know who has used it last and can ensure it is clean.
